Why a Free Software Video Sharing Platform?

Currently almost all video sharing sites don't make their platform easily available for others to use. Even those committed to principals of Open Content don't make their available software lest other set up their own sites. Whilst new participatory media spaces are opening up democratic channels of communications previously only imagined, these sites are increasingly taking on a resemblance to large estate owners, where rights are given to users to till the soil whilst the the fruits of their labor (content, social networks etc.) are harvested by the Lords who enrich themselves greatly. For those who don't want to pay rent but own their own space the options are limited. Plumi aims to be a tool for people to create their own space. It's free and open source, modifiable and copyable by anyone without any needs to pay anyone anything.
