Make submit process into a three step form like before

Description

The submit process in plumi 3 should have steps 1,2,3 as it did in older versions. The steps already appear at the top of the page, but may need some javascript and/or css to force people to go through steps 1 and 2.

Added the IMultipageShema interface to the plumivideo and also a custom edit templte for the plumivideo. It will force the users to go through all the steps while uploading a video.

Hi, I have tested this at  http://plumi.mahiti.org and it is not set up as in 0.2.3. The order is different. Please refer to  http://demo.plumi.org and check the publishing schema there for an example of how it should work.

  • Milestone changed from 3.0-Final to 3.0-beta2

Moving this to beta2, i think this is base level interface so be good to have for a beta2.

I'm working on it.

I need more info on which fields should be visible in each step. I think the video file should be uploaded in the first step so there's a good chance that the transcoding will being finished by the end of the 3rd step process.

It could be done in the first step as long as the user was still forced to go through the metadata steps afterwards to get to submit the video. I think many users would not bother with the metadata if they weren't made to. The other question is how this new form system would integrate with the ftp system, I'm not sure that has been tested with plumi 3 yet. Would be worth checkinh.

Regarding the fields, whilst I think there is room for improvement I'd leave it as it is in plumi 0.2.3 for the moment so we can get the release out. We could then come back in 3.1 with a more defined spec in that regard.

I've had a pretty close look at this.

Firstly, attached is a spreadsheet outlining a proposed 3 step schema. Whilst I think the new auto-thumbnail extraction feature is seriously fantastic my feeling is that it needs to somehow be asynchronous and more generally that the whole upload form needs reconsidering, which requires more time than we presently have.

With that in mind I'm suggesting we go back to more or less the old format with a thumbnail being added if the user doesn't add one but denying them the ability to choose to replace a pre-selected thumbnail, if they choose not to add the thumbnail originally. Obviously they can go back into the form afterward and add a new thumbnail if they so desire.

In the spreadsheet the items in red should be compulsory.

Some other key things

  • remove the am/pm/hours on the date of production and change the titles to "Date of Release"
  • Remove by-lines eg. where it says 'Country of Origin' there is no need underneath to put "The associated country of origin of the video content". Same for all the titles/by lines on step 2. Remove them all.
  • On step 3, remove the by-line "The thumbnail image for the video content" where says "Thumbnail Image"
  • Video Categories - change text to " Topics. Hold down CTRL/COMMAND and click to select multiple topics"
  • Licensing API is missing

The rest should be available from the spreadsheet.

FYI I am working tomorrow so can feedback on anything quickly if need be. Thanks And.

It took a lot more work than expected but I think it's finally done.

Looking awesome. Missing a couple of little things from the above list

  • the by-lines are still all in there - eg. "The Producer's email address". It's just repeating the title of the field again. If it's repeated it should be deleted.
  • Description field should be compulsory
  • Date of release should be compulsory
  • There is something strange going on with text like "Hold down CTRL/COMMAND and click to select multiple topics." on step 2, it's grey but when you hover over it goes black, but it's not a link.
  • add an additional line break between "related items" and "next". I think you can miss it given how close the two are.
  • Remove "The caption for the thumbnail image." where it says "thumbnail image description" on step 3, I think this is just doubling up.

Almost there :)

Looks done apart from

  • There is something strange going on with text like "Hold down CTRL/COMMAND and click to select multiple topics." on step 2, it's grey but when you hover over it goes black, but it's not a link.

Which I will add as a separate ticket in 3.0-final.
